ANSI (American National Standards Institute)

이번은 미국표준협회인 ANSI 규격에 대해서 알아보겠습니다.

1918년 ASME, ASCE, ASTM, AIEE(American Institute of Electrical Engineers),

AIME(American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers)의 5단체 협력으로

AESC(American Engineering Standards Committee)를 설립한 후 많은 학협회,

​업자단체가 가입하여 1928년 ASA(American Standards Association)이 되었습니다.

상기 ASA는 국제표준화 활동,

​소비자보호 등의 사업확대와 자주적인 국가규격의 제정 촉진을 목적으로 조직을 확대 개편하여

1966년에 USASI(United States of America Standards Institute)로 명칭을 변경 한 후

1969년에 현재의 명칭인 ANSI로 변경되었습니다.


ANSI는 미국의 각종 임의 규격들과 적합성 평가 시스템을 총괄 관리하며 조정하는 사설, 비영리단체입니다.

또한, 미국 내 각종 산업들의 국제 경쟁력을 강화 시키고,

​미국민의 생활의 질을 향상시키기 위해 다방면으로 임의 규격들을 개발, 보급, 적용하고

이들의 적합성 평가 시스템을 도입하는 등 일괄적이고 지속적인 상호 보호장치의 역할을 수행하는 목적으로 설립되었습니다.



ANSI는 원칙적으로 규격작성은 하지 않고 전문단체 혹은 관련위원회를 통해 소정 절차를 거쳐 ANSI 규격으로 승인됩니다.

​승인된 규격은 ANSI가 최종적으로 편집하게 됩니다.

ANSI 규격은 한국의 KS 및 일본의 JIS처럼 미국 내 산업제품의 품질 관리 및 조정하는 단체의 규격입니다.

ANSI (American National Standards Institute)

In 1918, the five engineering societies, that the American Society of Mechanical Engineers(ASME), the American Society of Civil Engineers(ASCE), the American Society for Testing Materials(ASTM), American Institute of Electrical Engineers(AIEE) and the American Institute of Mining and Metallurgical Engineers(AIME) to join in establishing American Engineering Standards Committee(AESC).

In 1928, it was reorganized and renamed the American Standards Association (ASA).

The ASA was reorganized in 1966 as the United States of America Standards Institute (USASI) in response to identified needs for a broader use of the consensus principle in developing and approving standards; making the voluntary standards system more responsive to consumer needs; and strengthening U.S. leadership internationally.

The ANSI adopted its present name in 1969.


the Institute remains a private, nonprofit membership organization supported by a diverse constituency of private and public sector organizations.

ANSI has maintained as its primary goal the enhancement of global competitiveness of U.S. business and the American quality of life by promoting and facilitating voluntary consensus standards and conformity assessment systems and promoting their integrity.
